FASE – March/April 2022 Course Description

Where: SureHire - 8115 Roper Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 6S4
 
When: Online Lectures + 2 in-person days from 8:00am-4:30pm MST each day
Online lectures to be completed 3 weeks prior to in-person training.
 
What: Areas covered include: musculoskeletal system, phases of healing, selective tissue tension testing, muscle strength grading, grading of ligament injuries, postural assessment, and non-organic testing.

About FASE

FASE is a comprehensive course that was developed by the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists to broaden the MSK assessment skills of practicing Kinesiologists. This course is designed to improve collaboration and effectiveness of communication with colleagues in rehabilitation such as Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Chiropractors and Physicians. It Provides a framework for appropriate and timely referrals to allied health professionals.

Participants will leave with assessment skills to help direct the prescription of corrective exercises and appropriately adjust existing exercise programs. Topics covered include:

• Focused History taking
• Assessment of musculoskeletal system (entire spine and extremities)
• Phases of healing
• Selective tissue tension testing
• Muscle strength grading / Mobility Assessment
• Grading of ligament injuries
• Postural assessment
• Neurological assessment/screening
• Non-organic testing.

Lead an objective treatment approach with practical assessment skills for the spine and extremities learned in this course.

Part II: Extremities
Saturday, (Day 1)

• 8:00 – 8:30 am Registration, vaccination, and temperature checks
• 8:30 am – 12 pm Assessment of Shoulder
• 12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch (food will not be provided)
• 1:00 – 4:30 pm Assessment of Knee

Sunday, (Day 2)

• 8:00 – 8:30 am Temperature checks
• 8:30 – 10:00 am Assessment of Elbow
• 10:00 am – 12 pm Assessment of Ankle
• 12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch (food will not be provided)
• 1:00 – 3:00 pm Assessment of Wrist
• 3:00 – 4:30 pm Assessment of Hip

1. Policy & Procedures:

• Sanitize your assessment stations with the sanitizing wipes provided at the beginning of each in-person session.
• Handwashing stations will be available for use throughout the event. We encourage you to wash your hands before assessing another event participant.
• Lunch break details. A refrigerator and microwave are available for participant use in the facility. Access to the kitchen will be provided in waves within your designated groups to avoid close contact with other participants. After each selected group accesses the kitchen, please sanitize all contact areas, including countertops, appliances, and door handles.
• Lunch options are available nearby, including Basha Donair, Ninja Noodle, Quiznos, and more.

2. What can I bring to the event?
Please bring your lunch, a snack and a beverage (it's a long day). Also, remember to bring your laptop with your digital course manual downloaded (you will receive an email link to the course manual up to 5 days before the start of class).

3. What's the refund policy?
Full refunds are available up to seven (7) days before the start of the course. Please note that declined credit cards or incorrectly disputed charges will result in a $50 service fee. 

4. Free Parking is available on site.

5. Registration includes a digital course manual at no additional cost.
